The last weekend, April 20-21, 2024, 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) legionnaires commemorated their patron, Saint George (Saint-Georges in French). See some images.
The festivities took place at Camp Carpiagne, a vast military area and the base of the regiment, located close to Marseille, southern France. They were presided by General Youchtchenko, the commander-in-chief of the Foreign Legion. The festivities were attended by the regiment’s veterans, families of the legionnaires with children, and civilian visitors. In addition to the main ceremony and the following parade, a variety of entertainment activities were organized for them.
Traditionally, the feast of Saint George is celebrated on April 23.
