Foreign Legion preselection center in Paris

The French Foreign Legion preselection center in Paris is one of the Legion’s two preselection centers. Based at Fort de Nogent, it serves a dual role. It recruits new candidates and also carries out an initial candidate preselection. A recruiting office of the Foreign Legion, called PILE (Poste d’Information de la Légion Etrangère), is based within the Fort to take care of new candidates/volunteers and include them into the preselection process.

The preselection center in Paris should be open all year round, including on weekends and holidays (such as Christmas), 24 hours a day. That means you can enlist in the Legion at this center every day of the year and at any time. Once you are allowed to enlist, free food, free accommodation, and free clothing will be immediately provided to you by the Legion.

In Paris, a new candidate/volunteer is undergoing first interviews, medical tests, and basic sports tests (beep test). Within 10 days, all enlisted candidates/volunteers are provided with a free train ticket and sent from Paris to the Foreign Legion preselection/selection center in Aubagne, situated within the Legion’s HQ in southern France, to join the main selection process held there. Any candidate/volunteer wanting to serve in the Legion has to undergo this crucial selection process and successfully pass the required tests (psycho, sports, and medical tests). For more information about entry requirements, see: Joining the French Foreign Legion.

The preselection center in Paris also runs several affiliated information offices — smaller recruiting centers — based in various towns in which a new candidate/volunteer can also enlist in the Legion:

If a candidate/volunteer has chosen to enlist in the Legion in one of these smaller recruiting centers, he will undergo an initial interview with a long-serving legionnaire. If there is no problem and he is allowed to enlist in the Legion, the candidate/volunteer is immediately provided with free accommodation, free food, and free clothing, like in Paris. Within 7 days, all gathered candidates/volunteers are provided with a free train ticket and sent to the preselection center in Paris.
