1er REC: 2nd Squadron train at Formiguères

In mid-August 2019, the legionnaires of the 2nd Squadron, 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) moved to Formiguères, a commune in the Pyrenees mountain range of southern France, at the border with Spain, to spend two weeks there.

The French Foreign Legion has had its own chalet at Formiguères for decades, used mainly and on a regular basis by legionnaires of the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), a training unit of the Legion. Every basic training platoon goes to Formiguères for a week, to spend the time in the mountains. It is seen as a small vacation/holiday for men during their four-month initial instruction.

This time, it’s the 2nd Squadron, 1er REC who takes advantage of a fresh air to train before deploying on a prescribed mission.
