In April and May 2019, legionnaires of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) took part in military training with the Armada of the Dominican Republic, a country located in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea, and the most visited tourist destination in the region.
Between April 24 and May 12, the 1st Squadron, 1er REC participated in a joint military exercise called DUNAS 2019, alongside Dominican marines from the Armada (Dominican Republic’s Navy), at the country’s largest military naval base of Las Calderas, situated in the Peravia Province.
The 1st Squadron legionnaires-cavalrymen are currently (since early February) forming a rotational infantry company, the 1st Company of the 33rd Marine Infantry Regiment (33e RIMa), a French overseas unit (that means, being composed of elements rotating every 4 months or 2 years). The regiment is stationed in Martinique and Guadelupe, French islands in the Caribbean Sea.
The 1st Squadron, 1er REC would return back to France in June 2019.
