At the end of July 2025, the village of Les Cammazes in the Tarn department of southern France hosted a Remise de Képi blanc ceremony, during which a platoon of enlisted volunteers from the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE) took their oath, received the iconic white képi, and officially became legionnaires.
On July 29, the 51 recruits of the 2nd Platoon, 3rd Enlisted Volunteer Company (3e CEV) received their white képis in a formal ceremony held in front of the village’s community hall. It was the first time in over 30 years that Les Cammazes had hosted such an event, and a large part of the local population turned out to witness the occasion.
Captain Foy from the 4e RE introduced the platoon and explained the significance of the ceremony. The 51 new legionnaires came from 23 countries across five continents. After being selected in Aubagne and completing a two-week induction period, they began the Legion’s four-month basic training. Prior to the ceremony, they had spent four weeks at an isolated farm.
Now officially legionnaires, the new members of the Legion family were congratulated by Mayor Alain Mary, who also thanked the former legionnaires from a local veterans’ association, municipal officials, the gendarmerie, and the many residents in attendance. Major Cuvillier, a local resident and member of the Legion’s training regiment, reminded guests that the Foreign Legion has existed for nearly 200 years and today represents one in ten soldiers in the French Army’s operational forces.
The event concluded with a parade around the community hall, followed by a gathering with drinks and light refreshments.
