In late February 2019, legionnaires of the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE), the HQ of the Foreign Legion, participated in a regimental exercise taking place close to Aubagne (southern France), their garrison town. See the video.
The squad-level exercise called Adjudant-chef Kamencei was named after a famous NCO of Hungarian origin, who served with the Legion between 1946-63 and died in 2009. Devided into three parts, its goals were to maintain the legionnaires’ high level of using firearms and shooting with them, to demonstrate them equipment used in other Legion regiments and familiarize them with that, and finally to carry out several tasks aimed at toughening the legionnaires to keep them as fearless courageous soldiers.
