3e REI: 100th Anniversary Commemoration

On 23 November 2015, the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI) commemorated the 100th anniversary. The ceremony took place at Quartier Forget, the main headquarters of the regiment based at Kourou, French Guiana.

On 11 November 1915, during World War I, the Foreign Legion Regimental Combat Team (Régiment de Marche de la Légion Etrangère, RMLE) was established by amalgamating the survived men of two previous combat teams/task forces, which were established within the Foreign Legion in 1914-15 to fight on the Western front. Five years later, in late 1920, RMLE became the 3e RE while having been already based in Fez, Morocco.
