In early July 2019, legionnaires of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP), the only airborne unit of the French Foreign Legion, were jumping for the very first time from the Airbus A400M, a European modern four-engine military transport aircraft.
The Airbus A400M is considered to replace older and smaller transport aircrafts being currently used by French paratroopers: Transall C-160 and Lockheed C-130 Hercules. The French Army has adopted it since 2013.
The legionnaires from the 3rd Company, 2e REP did day and night jumps into the sea close to their military camp, situated at Calvi, Corsica.
