On July 22, 2016, the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP), the French Foreign Legion unit based on the island of Corsica, saw the Change of Command ceremony. It took place at Camp Raffalli, the HQ of the 2e REP located near the town of Calvi.
During the ceremony, the regiment said good bye to its ending commander, Colonel Jean-Michel Meunier, and welcomed its new commanding officer, Colonel Jean de Monicault. However, Colonel De Monicault isn’t a new face in the regiment. He has served with the 2e REI since he was a platoon leader. He is known for his good physical condition. The new commander participated in several marathons, including the 100 km (62 miles) long extreme running race.
Within the Foreign Legion, part of the French Army, the commanding officers obtain their post for two years usually.
