2e REP: Operation Aghrab in southeastern Niger

Last month, some 300 soldiers from France, Niger and Chad were involved in Operation Aghrab in southeastern Niger, on the border with Chad. Legionnaires from the French Foreign Legion’s 2nd Platoon, 1st Company, 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) participated in.

The operation, which took place April 15-27, was designed to control the border between Niger and Chad and to look for individuals or groups conducting the illegal trafficking through the Sahara desert in this area. Simultaneously, the legionnaires tested their operability in the desert warfare.

In early April, the legionnaires from 2e REP jumped over the Salvador Pass in northern Niger.
