See some of the activities of the French Foreign Legion’s only cavalry unit, the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) and its legionnaires during March 2015.

Operation Perceval

In Marseille (southern France),the 1er REC legionnaires participate in Operation Perceval, as a part of the Vigipirate, France’s national security alert system.

ERC 90 SAGAIE firing exercise

Between March 2 and 13, legionnaires from the 3rd Squadron of 1er REC participated in a firing exercise at the Canjeurs military camp, to improve their skills with ERC-90 Sagaie armored vehicle. This summer, they will be deployed to the Central African Republic.

Change of command ceremony

On March 13, the 2nd Squadron of 1er REC conducted a Change of command ceremony. Its squadron commander Jean-Baptiste Jouannic left for Paris and was replaced by captain Louis Buisson.

Exercise Medichos

Between March 16 and 19, 1er REC legionnaires were involved in a medical exercise Medichos at the Carpiagne military camp, to train their medical skills because of oncoming deployments to Mali and the Central African Republic.

1er REC opens its doors

The 1er REC opens its doors to the public on April 25 and 26, because of celebrating St George’s Day, the holiday of the regiment. Admission is free. No booking needed.
