Legionnaires in Norway

Since March 3, 2014, legionnaires of the Mountain equipment platoon (Section équipement montagne, SEM) from Support Company of the 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG) of the French Foreign Legion, have been stationed in northern Norway.

Since March 10, these legionnaires together with their colleagues from the French 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade (27e Brigade d’Infanterie de Montagne, 27e BIM) will be participating in the NATO mountain exercise Cold Response 2014 (16,000 men from 16 states in total) there, for ten days in extreme cold-weather environments, training mountain warfare. They have been preparing and acclimatising themselves for the exercise for the last couple of days.

In Narvik (a city in northern Norway), on March 8, legionnaires took part in the military ceremony dedicated to the fallen soldiers, including legionnaires, of the Battle of Narvik of 1940.
