On June 9, 2017, the 13th Demi-Brigade of the Foreign Legion (13e DBLE) of the French Foreign Legion received its first 250 HK416F rifles. As stated earlier, the 13e DBLE has been the first French Army regiment equipped with the German Heckler & Koch rifle, which has to replace the French FAMAS.
The newly received 250 HK416F rifles will be distributed to the 4th Company and the SAED commando-like platoon. In October, the 1st Company will be also equipped with the new rifles. In April, first HK rifles were handed over to a group of 13e DBLE officers and legionnaires to familiarize them with the new weapon and to train them as future instructors.
The French Army would like to equip its soldiers with 100,000 HK416F rifles until 2024.
