On Monday, January 25, 2016, the sixth legionnaire who had been caught in the avalanche in the French Alps died from his injuries. He was one of the 14 members of the Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG) affected by the avalanche during basic mountain warfare training.
1st Class Legionnaire David Hetenyi, a 23-year-old Hungarian, joined the Foreign Legion in December 2014. He was severely injured by the avalanche near the Valfréjus ski resort in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region on January 18, 2016, and died from his injuries one week later.
