French Foreign Legion Age Requirements

What are the age requirements and age limits for joining the French Foreign Legion? At what age are you allowed to enlist? Well, the Foreign Legion has three age limits. A minimum age, a legal age, and a maximum age for getting accepted into the Legion’s selection process.

The minimum age to join the Foreign Legion is 17 years and 6 months. That means you must be at least 17 years, 6 months, and 0 days old when you are knocking on the Legion’s gate. However, at this age, either your parents or legal guardian must be present to sign a consent form, or you must show a notarized affidavit of consent from your parents or legal guardian, translated into French. This consent is required until you turn 18 years of age. The form is either available in French gendarmeries, in France, or French embassies, outside of France.

The legal age for joining the Foreign Legion without any consent signed by your parents or legal guardian, is 18 years. If you are 18 years of age or older, you are allowed to enlist in the French Foreign Legion on your own.

The maximum age limit for joining the Foreign Legion is 39 years and 6 months. That means you must be at most 39 years, 6 months, and 0 days old when knocking on the Legion’s gate to be allowed to join the selection process.

These are the only age requirements for joining the French Foreign Legion.
