41 years ago, on May 24, 1976, the second deadliest accident for the Legion in its post-1962 modern history occurred. During a military exercise in the then French Territory of the Afars and the Issas (today’s Djibouti), a country located in the Horn of Africa, a French Army helicopter crashed. Eight men on board were killed, including six legionnaires from the GOLE (Foreign Legion Operational Group)…
For unknown reasons, the accident has been completely forgotten in France. Yet in early 2017, there weren’t any original French articles dedicated to this incident on the internet.
