2e REP: Exercise Vent d’Automne 2024

In late September 2024, the French Foreign Legion’s only airborne unit, 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP), carried out a military exercise in the northwest of Corsica. See the video.

The exercise, called Vent d’Automne (Autumn Wind), took place in some twenty communes of Corsica’s Balagne region, between September 15 and 20. A realistic test of their skills, it mobilized around 550 legionnaires of the elite regiment who trained for airborne operations, mountain combat missions, and interventions in hostile environments.

The annual exercise enables the Legion paratroopers to assess team cohesion, operational precision, and responsiveness in emergency situations. The command focused on a variety of scenarios, including high-altitude parachute jumps, armored vehicle maneuvers, and night operations.

The rugged terrain around the commune of Calenzana, with its mountains and valleys, and the capricious weather provided the perfect backdrop for this large-scale maneuver, which simulated a modern conflict in a difficult environment in enemy territory.

The opening voice in the video presents the exercise: “… The REP is a war machine. And each machine requires oil.”
