As the 40th anniversary of the activation of the French Foreign Legion’s first engineer regiment approaches in early July, the Legion has recently released a new official video clip to introduce viewers to its combat engineers of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) and the 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG).
On July 1, 1984, the 6th Foreign Engineer Regiment (6e REG) was created in Laudun, Southern France. The 6e REG drew its lineage, attributes, and traditions from the 6th Foreign Infantry Regiment, a unit organized in Syria in 1939 and disbanded in Tunisia in 1955. Fifteen years later, on July 1, 1999, the regiment was redesignated as the 1er REG. On the same day, the 2e REG was activated.
See nice images, including those from Indochina, Iraq and the Balkans.
