After a year of testing, the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) is now equipped with new patrol boats called EFG (Embarcation Fluviale du Génie), or River Engineering Boat. See the video.
The EFG is a small patrol boat with a length of 30 ft (9.1 m) and weighing 2.4 tons. It is propelled by two Yamaha outboard motors whose power is 150 horsepower each, allowing a top speed of 48 knots (around 44 mi/h or 70 km/h). The boat is equipped with two MAG 58 machine guns (7.62 mm).
The 1er REG is the very first regiment of the French Army to use the boat. At the same time, according to its colonel, it is the first engineer regiment of the French Army to be able to fight on the river.
Earlier, the 1er REG legionnaires used (or tested) EFR River Speed Boats.
In the video, an army media sergeant presents an EFG boat occupied by elite PCG combat divers (formerly DINOPS) of the 1er REG.
