Every month, groups of new legionnaires are to join Foreign Legion regiments, after having finished their four-month basic training. In January 2019, such group of 12 fresh legionnaires joining the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) were decorated and became new cavalrymen of the only cavalry regiment of the Foreign Legion.
These fresh legionnaires have spent several weeks during the regiment’s initial instruction, which is required for all newcomers in all Legion operational regiments.
The 12 new cavalrymen were decorated with the 1er REC’s badge and fourrageres, received traditionally from hands of officers and veterans of the regiment.
