1er REG: A platoon returned from Africa

In early November 2022, a combat engineer platoon of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) was back at their home base in Laudun, Southern France. The legionnaires returned from Central Africa where they were participating in France’s anti-terrorist Operation Barkhane.

The 1st Platoon, 3rd Company, 1er REG served within a combined tactical task force (SGTIA) of the 13e DBLE, another Foreign Legion unit, between June and October 2022. The task force was first deployed to Mali (West Africa) which they later left for Chad. The 1er REG platoon, along with the task force, was stationed in N’Djamena, the capital.

The platoon provided engineering support for the 13e DBLE task force, as well as combat engineer training for local troops.

At the same time, a 1er REG platoon was in Ivory Coast where the Legion combat engineers with the 4th Company supported their colleagues from the 2e REI, and another one was deployed to Djibouti in the Horn of Africa.
