Legionnaires from the Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) conducted an interoperability training exercise with U.S. Marine Corps membres from the Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response – Africa (SPMAGTF-CR-AF, based in Spain), at the end of May 2015.
Legionnaires and Marines trained together at Camp des Garrigues, a French military camp located near Nimes (southern France), a home to the 2e REI, May 27-30. The exercise was focused on how to operate in Africa, the crisis-response area of operation for both militaries. Legionnaires and Marines were also improving their skills in an urban environment.
The U.S. Marine SPMAGTF-CR-AF unit is currently stationed at Moròn Air Base in Spain. The unit typically provides embassy reinforcement and evacuation capabilities, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
